Taking place outdoors on the grass garden plaza, 200 award winning artists will set up their display canopies and artwork to create a unique artisan village with thousands of hand-made, one of a kind creations. Where ART is a HAPPENING! The Indian Wells Arts Festival brings a splash of color to the beautiful grass concourse of the Indian Wells Tennis Garden. This spectacular venue transforms into an artisan village featuring 200 judged and juried artists and hundreds of pieces of one-of-a-kind artwork available for sale. Enjoy special exhibits including "Tour de Trash - Recycle Bicycle" sponsored by Palm Springs Life and "Art Beyond the Visual - An Exhibit to Touch." Watch glass blowing, monumental rock sculpting, wood carving, pottery, mural painting and weaving - demonstrations throughout the day. Live music, wine tasting, Gourmet MarketPlace, children's activities, and refreshments create a festive atmosphere.

Offering FREE admission to the public during the month of September while undergoing extensive renovations in preparation for an exciting season.

Info: The face lift comes on the eve of a schedule packed with stellar exhibitions, including Bill Viola's The Crossing in October, which marks the Art Museum's first time showing of a major piece of video work. The renovations mark a glimpse at the current Museum direction incorporated with a nostalgic nod to the history of the place. The orientation center in the entrance to the Art Museum as well as the two largest exhibition galleries that wing its sides will be stripped of their carpet and laid with solid, hardwood floors. The roof grid will be raised on the Disney and McCallum galleries to allow for four extra feet of height for sculptures and other artworks. The family-favorite area ZONE 101 will be completely redesigned and freshened up by local architect Phillip K. Smith, III. Finally, the Annenberg Theater will be restored to its original glory with reupholstered seats in "Annenberg orange" and a return to the patterned carpet of its early days.
